JAKARTA, Sept.29 (JDN.id) – At least 384 have been killed and 540 injured after a 1.5-meter tsunami hit Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi following a massive 7.4 quake on Saturday.
Number of casualties is likely to climb as search and rescue operation is still ongoing, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho from the country’s disaster mitigation agency BNPB said in a statement.
Previously the agency announced the scale of the quake at 7.7 but revised it to 7.4.
According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the earthquake has caused electricity blackout that affected telecommunication network.
Earlier it had resulted in the lack of information on casualties.
State air navigation agency AirNav issued a notification on the closure of Mutiara SIS Al Jufri Airport in Palu for 24 hours to Saturday night.
