JAKARTA, Sept.1 (JDN.id) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo confirmed on Saturday that the country will bid to be the host of Olympics 2032, following its success of hosting the 18th Asian Games that will be completed on Sunday.
The initiative was mentioned during his meeting with Thomas Bach, president of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, president of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Saturday at Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java.
“With our experience of hosting this Asian Games 2018, we, Indonesians, are confident to be able to host a bigger event. Therefore, Indonesia plans to soon propose itself as the candidate for hosting Olympics 2032,” President Widodo said after the meeting.
The confidence was strengthened by Bach who congratulated Indonesia of its success for hosting the Asia’s biggest multi-sports event.
“I could congratulate the president (of Indonesia) of the great success of the Asian Games, which is really impressive and therefore, International Olympic Committee appreciate the candidature of Indonesia for Olympic Games 2032,” Bach said.
He admitted the success of the nation as the host of the 18th Asian Games and one of the impressive factors that contribute for that is the people of Indonesia.
As many as 13,000 young Indonesians support the event as volunteers.
“You can see a great combination of friendliness and efficiency at the same time. And all of these you have demonstrated with this Asian Games…are offering very solid foundation as a candidature,” Bach added.
