JAKARTA, Aug.31 ( JDN.id) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo will deliver bonus to the country’s athletes who contributed medals from Asian Games 2018 before the closing ceremony of the Games on Sunday.
The government of Indonesia has promised to give 1.5 billion rupiah ($101.5 million) to each of its athlete who could secure gold medal during the Asia’s biggest multi-sports event. The government also promised to give gold medalists a house and priority opportunity to work as civil servant or police or military personnel.
As of Friday evening, the host country of the 18th Asian Games has secured 91 medals comprising of 30 gold, 23 silver and 38 bronze. The country is in the fourth place of the total medal tally of the Games as on Friday.
“It’s scheduled on Sunday at 10 a.m. because the president wants the bonus to be handed over soon before the sweat of those athletes gets dry,” Syafruddin, head of Indonesian contingent to Asian Games 2018 said.
Speaking on Friday morning at Athlete Village in Kemayoran, Jakarta before sports managements, officials and associations officials, Syafruddin who is also the country’s Bureaucratic Reform Minister promised to speed up the process of athletes to become civil servants.
Athletes who did not contribute a single medal from this year’s Asian Games, still get the chance to become civil servants, he said.
“In October, we will have another civil servant candidates selection,” former deputy National Police chief added.
