JAKARTA, Aug.31 (JDN.id) – Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo, well-known as Jokowi, welcomed the official visit of the new Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java on Friday.
“On behalf of the Indonesian people, I want to congratulate you on the task of being prime minister,” Jokowi said in joint press statement as quoted by suara.com.
According to Jokowi, he immediately made a phone call the day after Morrison was appointed as the new Australian Prime Minister.
“Indonesia is honoured to be the first country to be visited. This can be interpreted as a strong commitment of the new Australian government to build a strong, mutually respectful and mutually beneficial relationship,” Jokowi added.
Jokowi said, in a bilateral meeting with Morrison Indonesia had also affirmed its commitment to continue to improve bilateral relations with Australia.
“Australia is one of Indonesia’s important partners in the region, Australia is also an important partner for Asia,” said Jokowi.
