JAKARTA, Aug.29 (JDN.id) – Indonesia as the host country of the 18th Asian Games is confident to stay at the fourth place of Asia’s biggest sports event’s medal tally, expecting additional golds to be seized in the next few days, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Tuesday.
Indonesian contingent to Asian Games 2018 has passed its minimum of 16 gold target -by Tuesday evening, the country has collected 24 gold medals.
“We can say we are almost certain that we will stay at fourth place, with Iran now we have six (gold medals) spare, when they tried to catch up with our (number of golds), we earned more,” Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Tuesday as reported by Kompas TV.
“Taking fourth place is extraordinary up from 17th place in Korea (Asian Games 2014),” he added.
Separately, Chef de Mission of Indonesian contingent to Asian Games 2017, Syafruddin, hopes Indonesia can manage to secure 30 gold medals as possible medals could come from some sports including boxing, pencak silat, and paragliding.
