JAKARTA, Aug.29 (JDN.id) – Indonesian archery team apologised on Tuesday for its failure to contribute gold to the host country as they could only present silver and bronze medals in Asian Games 2018.
“We apologize (to all Indonesians) because we were not able to give gold medal to Indonesia in Asian Games 2018,” said athlete Riau Ega Agata Salsabila, representing his team mates as quoted by Antara news agency.
Salsabila was expected to secure gold for the country but left with bronze from men’s recurve individual event and his compatriot Diananda Choirunisa silver from women’s recurve individual division.
Archery is a favourite sport among Indonesian after its three female athletes – Nurfitriyana Saiman, Kusuma Wardhani and Lilies Handayani – won silver, the first medal for Indonesia in the 1988 Summer Olympic in Seoul.
Their achievement has encouraged many Indonesians to join the sport.
