JAKARTA. Aug.28 (JDN.id) – Indonesian badminton pair Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo, popularly known as the ‘minions’, grabbed a gold medal in Asian Games 2018 in the men’s doubles division by defeating their compatriots Fajar Alfian and Rian Ardianto in Istora Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday.
The minions defeated Fajar/Rian after three sets, scoring 13-21, 21-18, and 24-22. They lost the first set and worked hard to catch up in the second and third.
Marcus/Kevin described their victory as a miracle they almost got upset with the battle in the middle of the last set.
This victory was the second badminton gold after another medal was contributed by Jonatan Christie in men’s single division.
Indonesia moved up to the fourth place with 24 gold medals, 19 silver and 29 bronze by Tuesday evening.
The amount of gold medals Indonesia has won to date set a new record for the country in the history of Asian Games.
