JAKARTA, Aug.23 (JDN.id) – Indonesia secured one more gold in Asian Games 2018 from paragliding after Jafro Megawanto’s victory at men’s single accuracy division.
This is the seventh gold for the host country.
Megawanto’s action in Gunung Mas paragliding arena in Bogor regency, West Java won first place after finishing 10 rounds with a total of 27 points.
Megawanto was also part of the Indonesian paragliding team that won gold medal for the men’s team accuracy.
Before becoming a paragliding athlete, Megawanto worked as a ‘paraboy’ or someone who folds parachutes. He had shown interest in paragliding since teenager. He secretly had a dream to become a paragliding pilot.
“There was a manager who recruited me to become an athlete, after that I was enrolled to a (paragliding) school and instructed at a paragliding school until I got a license,” the 22 years old athlete said.
Head of Indonesia’s contingent Syafruddin welcomed Megawanto’s win with gratitude.
“This is a proud achievement for Indonesia. It’s the best and adding gold to the Indonesian team,” said Syafruddin.
Paragliding has contributed two golds and one silver for Indonesia’s team in Asian Games 2018.
