JAKARTA, Aug.23 (JDN.id) – Climbing has contributed more medals to Indonesia’s contingent to Asian Games 2018 after the victory of climbers Aries Susanti Rahayu and Puji Lestari in the women’s single speed division on Thursday, securing gold and silver at Jakabaring Sports City, Palembang, South Sumatra.
The two female athletes were on all-Indonesians final when Rahayu finished first at 7.61 seconds, while Lestari 7.98 seconds. In the third place was China’s Cuilian He at 7.27 seconds.
“I tried to keep focusing (during the competition),” Rahayu told journalists on her secret to win the game.
This is the eighth gold for Indonesia.
The system of the game was play-off head to head in which Cuilian in semifinal was defeated by Puji.
“We will see in the next two days, hopefully additional medals can be secured from climbing,” said chef de mission of Indonesian contingent, Syafruddin, who witnessed the competition.
For Asian Games 2018, Indonesia’s Climbing Federation (FPTI) enforces 20 climbers to participate. The association expects to contribute two golds for Indonesia.
Indonesia’s Aspar Jaelolo contributed bronze from men’s single speed.
