JAKARTA, Aug. 14 (JDN.id) – Indonesia’s forest fire in 2018 has gone down compared to in 2017, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto said after a meeting in his office in Jakarta, Tuesday (14/8).
This year 1,707 hot spots have been recorded, a significant drop from 2,567 in the same months in 2017, according to Wiranto.
He said land fires occurred in Indonesia are caused by villagers burning forest to create farm lands.
This method has been carried out for generations making it difficult to raise awareness of the community.
“The most difficult thing is how we change the behaviour of traditional people for burning the forest in order to change that into plantation, farm or agricultural area,” he added.
