JAKARTA, Aug. 13 (JDN.id) – A 12-year old boy is the only survivor from a chartered plane crash in Papua on Saturday, a statement from Transport Ministry said on Monday.
On Sunday morning, the location of the crash was found and search and rescue team found one survivor and eight others who were killed in the incident, including the boy’s father.
The Pilatus PC-6 Porter operated by Marta Buana Abadi or Dimonim Air had lost contact with the ground air traffic controllers an hour after taking off from Tanah Merah. The plane was heading to Oksibil when crashed at Bintang mountainous area.
Bad weather might have been the cause of the accident. The captain of the plane was Papua New Guinean national Leslie Suvuve and Indonesian national co-pilot Wayan Sugiarta.
All bodies and the survivor were transferred to a hospital in Oksibil to be taken by their families.
Mobility in Papua is commonly done via air due to the mountainous landscape and lack of land transport infrastructure.
