JAKARTA, Aug. 9 (JDN.id) – Prabowo Subianto and Sandiago Uno have paired up to compete in Indonesia’s 2019 presidential election, supported by three political parties, an announcement was made on late Thursday night.
Prabowo, the chairman of Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) announced the candidacy on Thursday. The pair is supported by three political parties, Gerindra, the National Conscience Party (PAN) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
“…(Three parties) have decided and given trust to me, Prabowo Subianto, and Sandiago Uno to go forward as president and vice president candidates for 2019-2024,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo, 66, is also a founder of Gerindra. Before settling his own business, Prabowo was a three-star general in the army.
Uno, also from Gerindra, is now serving as deputy governor Jakarta.
The pair will register to the General Elections Commission (KPU) on Friday.
Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno will compete with Joko Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin in next year presidential election.
With the announcement of Prabowo-Uno candidacy, Democrat Party chaired by former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, is the only political party that has yet to decide its coalition.
If the party remains neutral, or will not join any existing political party coalition, it cannot participate in 2024 elections as stated in the country’s election law.
