United States Secretary, Michael R. Pompeo will be visiting Indonesia’s Capital, Jakarta this weekend during his Southeast Asia visit in the beginning of August.
US State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Pompeo will be scheduled to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Singapore, and Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Secretary’s participation in annual ASEAN-centered ministerial meetings while in Singapore August 3-4 supports the United States’ vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific, she said in a press release statement.
She said the Secretary’s visit in Jakarta on August 4-5 will reinforce the U.S.-Indonesia Strategic Partnership as a lookahead to celebrate 70 years of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2019.
“The Secretary will discuss about advancing our shared security and bilateral trade and investment goals, affirm ASEAN centrality, and highlight Indonesia’s leadership in realising a free and open Indo-Pacific,” she added.
Pompeo will also meet Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi on Saturday in a bilateral meeting and further meeting with President Joko Widodo on Sunday morning.
