JAKARTA, Aug.2 (JDN.id) – Indonesian Military held a counterterrorism drill in Jakarta on Wednesday as part of the preparation for Asia’s biggest sports event, Asian Games 2018.
Commander of Kopassus, Indonesian Army’s Special Forces Command, Eko Margiyono said that the drill was required to anticipate the success of the 18th Asian Games.
“The drill was focused in the basketball venue, aquatic pool and Hotel Sultan area. The drill will also be held in in Palembang,” Margiyono said in a release in Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/8).
There were 520 personnel from Kopassus and Navy’s couterterrorism unit Detachment Jala Mangkara (Denjaka),
“We will deploy special anti-terrorism squads should the level of danger increases,” Margiyono added.
Indonesia is ready to host more than 17,000 athletes from 45 countries participated in the Asia’s mega event that will be hosted in Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra from Aug.18 to Sept.2.
