JAKARTA, July 31 (JDN.id) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo sent a team to Pyongyang to deliver an invitation to North Korea leader Kim Jong-un to attend the opening ceremony of 18th Asian Games on August 18.
The team consists of Coordinating Human Development and Cultural Affairs Minister Puan Maharani, and Chef de Mission of Indonesia contingent Comr. Gen. Syafruddin, who is also National Police deputy chief.
source link “We are delivering the official invitation to the President of North Korea to attend the Asian Games Opening Ceremony,” Puan said in statement released by officials in Jakarta, Monday evening.
Apart from talking about Asian Games, Puan also discussed about the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, regional issues as well as recognition of the performance of the police dealing with terrorism in Indonesia.
North Korean Deputy Prime Minister Ri Ryong Nam, Deputy Foreign Minister Chie Hui Choi, Deputy Director General of Asia Department Park Hyun Chol and Asia Department chief Ri Ho Juun were present at the meeting, the release said.
Indonesia’s National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin said Indonesia is committed to guarantee the security of every contingent participating in the biggest sports event in Asia, including the government of North Korea.
