JAKARTA, July 25 (JDN.id) – Milasari Anggraini, a new Indonesian female boxing promoter with V’s Boxing Promotions, plans to hold a national boxing competition Magelang Big Fights 2018 in Magelang, Central Java on August 11, she confirmed on Wednesday.
Five professional matches will be held in which boxer Heri Andrianto from Mangunrejo camp, Purworejo and Isack Latidena Yunior of Kolbat camp, Jakarta to compete for a national title from Indonesian Professional Boxing Commission (KTPI) at light welterweight 63.5 kg class .
“I have prepared myself in the last few months,” said Latidena in a press conference in Jakarta.
Besides five professional matches, ten amateur duel meets to be held, including a party where Milasari’s second son Verrel Dylanstra, 20 year-old boxer, will fight.
Verrel who has been living and studying in the US joined boxing at the age of 15 after leaving golf. The runner up of Golden Gloves California 2018, a boxing championship in the US, Verrel is expected to represent Indonesia in SEA Games 2019 in Manila, Philippines and Tokyo’s 2020 Summer Olympics.
“I entered boxing before MMA (mixed martial arts) popular. I want to focus on boxing,” Verrel said.
The professional financial expert was interested to develop Indonesia’s boxing by becoming a promoter because of her concern of the sport poor achievement in international arena.
Milasari who is originally from Purworejo, Central Java also was called to develop Indonesia’s boxing after her son Verrel decided to focus on the sport besides the memory of her father whom adored boxer legend Muhammad Ali.
“I hope with the network that I have, in particular in the US, I can give positive contribution for Indonesia’s boxing in the future,” Milasari said in Jakarta.
Though she has been living overseas for almost two decade, Milasari always carries her proud as an Indonesian and told her children about their origin country’s richest and diversity.
Organizing the event in Magelang with consideration that it is near popular Hinduism temple, Borobudur where Milasari expects to hold an international boxing competition in the near future.
“With Milasari as a promoter for her first event, we hope V’s Boxing Promotions will be growing and organizing more events here,” Martinez Dos Santos, consultant of the promotions agency said.
Santos admitted that the lack of domestic competition has contributed to the low performance of Indonesia’s boxers in international stage.
Milasari is now the only Indonesian female promoter.
