go to link JAKARTA, July 25 (JDN.id) – Law enforcement unit of Indonesia’s Environment and Forestry Ministry in Jambi have foiled an attempt of illegal market of 1,080 protected birds in the eastern part of Sumatra on Wednesday.
The birds seized are ninja hummingbirds or trochilidae, crimson sunbirds or aethopyga siparaja and great tits or parus major.
here According to the ministry, they rescued a total of 1,380 birds which consist of 1.080 protected birds and 300 other birds.
Prevention and Forest Protection Director of the Ministry, Sustyo Iriyono said that the birds were put on market without legal documents around Pekanbaru to Lampung.
“The birds were transported by bus,” he said in a statement.
follow site Head of Law Enforcement in Sumatera Conservation, Edward Sembiring said that illegal market of wild animal is an organized crime which involved network across provinces and countries.
“Law enforcement efforts will continue to be carried out to combat hunting and trade in order to save wildlife in their habitat, ” he said.
The perpetrators could be sentenced to maximum five years imprisonment and a fine of 100 million rupiah ($6,916) if found guilty.
