JAKARTA, July 19 (JDN.id) – The Asian Games 2018 torch relay began its journey in Indonesia’s Yogyakarta on Wednesday after a flame was taken a day earlier from National Dhyan Chand stadion, New Delhi India, .
The torch was then mergedon Wednesday evening with the Mrapen eternal flame in a ceremony in Prambanan Temple compound, the biggest ancient Hindu temple in Indonesia, a statement from the government said.
follow link The flames were brought together by Indonesian badminton legend Susi Susanti and former Indonesian tennis player Yustedjo Tarik before handing over the torch to the Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
“It is an honour for all of us, we are trusted to provide infrastructure and venue in the world level,” Jusuf Kalla said in the ceremony in Central Java.
The vice president officially announced the kick off of the relay.
The relay will pass 18 provinces and 53 cities across Indonesia before arriving at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta in August.
The torch was carried around Yogyakarta for 11 kilometers, with the finish line at the Yogyakarta Monument on Thursday. After that, the journey will continue to Surakarta, Central Java.
Jakarta and Palembang will co-host the biggest Asian sports games from August 18 to September 2, in which athletes from 45 countries will participate.
Indonesia will send 900 athletes to participate in 46 sports. The country first hosted Asian Games in 1962.
