JAKARTA, July 6 (JDN.id) – A fashion show promoting Indonesia’s heritage of ‘wastra’ or traditional fabrics was held on Sunday in Rome, the Indonesian embassy in the Italian capital said.
The show is the embassy’s collaboration with Rome’s popular fashion school, KOEFIA Academy as part of the AltaRoma Fashion Week Summer Edition.
AltaRoma Fashion Week is held twice a year, in January and July, attributed to young designers.
The show, ‘The Summer Fashion – Notes on Couture’, showcased the students’ creations on traditional fabrics including the batik collections belonging to the Indonesian Ambassador to Italy, Esti Andayani, and Deputy Chief of Mission, George Lantu.
Indonesian student at Calabria University in Italy, Ranty Yustina Dewi, showed guests how to create a piece of batik.
Event initiator House of Fashion Balenciaga thanked the Indonesian embassy and awarded Lectra-KOEFIA Balenciaga Award 2018 to students who won design competition.
Indonesian traditional songs, Janger, Gundul-gundul Pacul, and Bengawan Solo, were performed by husband and wife duo, Charles and Lona Hutapea. Guests also enjoyed delicacies including the popular nasi goreng and bubur kacang hijau or mung bean porridge.
