JAKARTA, July 4 (JDN.id) – Indonesia’s Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf was reportedly caught red-handed on Tuesday afternoon by anti-graft agency in the province’s capital of Banda Aceh.
Yusuf was believed to have received a gift in a government project.
“I received information that hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash was seized in the raid,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah told Kompas TV, adding the money was suspected to be part of commitment transaction fee.
Besides Yusuf, in a series of raids, KPK also arrested Benar Meriah regent Ahmadi and eight other individuals.
Investigators brought all of them to Aceh police office for further investigation, Diansyah said.
Yusuf and Ahmadi were transferred to Jakarta on Wednesday morning and arrived at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta in the afternoon, Metro TV reported.
KPK is expected to give details on the arrest later in the evening.
In 2017, Irwandi Yusuf, a former Free Aceh Movement GAM prominent activist, was reelected the governor of Aceh and officially recognised the implementation of sharia law. Yusuf was backed by Aceh Party PNA, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle PDI-P, Democratic Party, and National Awakening Party PKB.
