JAKARTA, June 23 (JDN.id) – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, on Saturday, witnessed Bali Arts Festival 2018, which marked the 40th annual celebration of arts and culture in Indonesia’s most popular tourism destination.
The arts festival, which runs from mid-June through mid-July, is an annual cultural treat to entertain visitors to enjoy Bali’s wealth of performing arts.
Tourists will also catch a glimpse of various cultural highlights from other parts of the nation. Most of the daily exhibitions and art performances are held in the Taman Werdhi Budaya Arts Centre in Bali’s capital of Denpasar.
On normal days, Denpasar’s art center offers visitors with a small tour to witness Balinese sculptures and architectural features, apart from providing a venue of choice for selfie, or photo shoots with exotic backdrops. However, during the festival, the complex turns into a huge crowd that offers a variety of contemporary dances, music compositions, shadow puppetry as well as various competitions that enliven the area.
Coconut leaf decorations, banners and various colorful traditional bamboo are on the background to beautify the event. The festival invites hundreds of artists from Denpasar, as well as Bali’s eight districts. There are also some artists from neighbouring islands, art troupes from overseas to participate as well as showcasing their talents.
