JAKARTA, June 17 (JDN.id) – The Ministry of Environment and Forestry said on Sunday it will evacuate a 2.5-meter long crocodile that was spotted near Tanjung Priok Port at a Navy’s facility in North Jakarta currently.
“We have asked Lantamal (Jakarta’s Main Naval Base) to not shot the animal,” Minister Siti Nurbaya said in a statement released by the ministry.
The ministry believes the crocodile, crocodylus porosus, was released from its captive breeding when flooding. “It is less likely that the crocodile originally from the nature,” the minister added.
The ministry’s directorate for natural resources and ecosystem conservation (KSDAE) will check crocodile captive breeding places and conservation centers in North Jakarta.
Government with Navy have put protected nets around Ancol Amusement Park, which connects to the port and the Navy base for the safety of visitors, Nurbaya explained.
