Fishing boat Arista that carried tens of passengers was sank in Khayangan island’s waters when it was on its way from Paotere port in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province on Sulawesi Island to Barrang Lompo island, Victor Viki Subroto, main harbourmaster of Makassar port said in a written statement.
No passengers manifest was available because the ship should not transport people, Subroto said. According to the owner of the ship statement, it was about 30 people were transported by the ship, he explained.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed 13 people have died from the accident and search and rescue team have been searching to find the rest of victims.
Separately, a speedboat that carried 30 people, including three crew, had an accident near Maspari island in South Sumatra on its way from a small port in Toboali, South Bangka regency in Bangka Belitung to Ogan regency in South Sumatra, said Junaidi, director of local coastguard unit.
